Linnéa had her mind set on space but found her passion while testing

Linnéa grew up outside Stockholm and studied computer science in high school. She knew early on that she wanted to study aeronautics at the university. Nonetheless, after a few years into her studies, she discovered her passion for communication platforms and software testing.

A final check – closing the loops

Linnéa moved to Luleå to study the master’s programme in Aerospace Engineering. During her studies, she did a year in Kiruna where she participated in a project work, the REXUS programme.

- I was responsible for designing and developing the communications software for our experiment. As I knew our housekeeping data like the back of my hand, it became natural that I should participate in all testing activities up until the actual launch. I enjoyed the mechanical aspects of my education, but during that project my interest in software deepened and I discovered what testing is all about. Most people have an idea of what it’s like sitting in the control room of a launch site, watching the countdown clock. From my experience, I know the real thrill is – when that clock approaches zero – to know that your performed tests cover all your system requirements and leave you with only one answer when the operator asks “go or no go?”. That excitement comes with any well-built system and due to my dedication to quality of life – working with management systems for utility is a great fit with my personality. I enjoy closing the loops, to have the opportunity to make a final check and ensure that our software deliverance is really good. As I get to work with these tasks, my persistent urge to double-check everything gets fulfilled and I can be more relaxed when I get home, Linnéa laughs.

A short walk and interesting collaboration

The isMobile ride begun in October of 2019. Linnea decided that she did not want to commute in the mornings and found a job opening as a Test Engineer in Luleå. Enjoying her twenty-five minute walk to the office she started her career as a test engineer. A role that now also includes responsibility as a Test Leader.

- In the role of Test Engineer I now work mostly with automatic tests and, as a Test Leader, I work close to Test Engineers and Testers at isMobile and with our customers. I also have close collaboration with the Tech Lead and with the Project Manager. My work tasks include coaching other testers, writing test cases, automatic testing and a bit of requirements engineering. I also coordinate a forum that we call Test Lab. It is a forum for everyone who works with tests where we talk about everything from well-being at the workplace and team activities to competence sharing and test projects. Usually, my day consists of a mix of internal meetings, customer meetings and my own work behind the computer.

Open door policy and ability to influence your development.

When asked what she appreciate most with isMobile as an employer, there is no doubt the main aspects are the open-door policy and the including culture where everybody can talk to anybody in the office. In addition, Linnéa feels that she can grow with isMobile.

We have an open door policy. Everybody can talk to anybody.

- An example of this was when a colleague and I started to think about Test Lab and if we should start a forum for all testers. It started with a few chats with the other testers and an email to some interested parties. Later that week, when we had our Friday-”Fika”, I ended up next to Micke, our CEO. I found that he had heard of the idea and the feedback was instant. I had only worked for a few months at that time, and I remember that I was surprised to be given that trust so early on.

- Regarding your personal development, it’s good to know that isMobile is not a large company with clear career paths. However, I really appreciate that my thoughts on my own development get a response. If you know what you want, my experience is that you get support to develop yourself. For me, for example, it has been to take a course in Automatic Tests and being involved in the planning of my own path.

Linnéa is looking for colleagues with new ideas and a growth mindset

isMobile is growing and Linnéa looks forward to working with more doers with lots of ideas.

-A growth mindset, with ambitions to continuously learn new things and a willingness to share your competence are also high on the wishing list. We are a product company and want to bring in different perspectives and ideas to continuously develop our products, says Linnéa.
