India – a fantastic country, expected to surpass China as the most populous country in the next seven years. With lots of positive development taking place, one example derives from the increasing need of electricity with an expected raise of five per cent annually. For example, India plans to be the first country in the world with only electric cars. The government of India decided to replace 250 million smart electrical meters - the majority for household electricity. The meters, which often are placed inside or on the outside of people’s home, are due to be replaced before the year of 2025. Until now, around 1.7 million meters have been replaced.

isMobile is keen to contribute and therefore decided to perform a profound market and customer analysis, with the smart meter rollout (SMR) and smart grid in India in focus. It turns out the government of India has a well-planned funding structure. There is also a centralized sponsoring model which aim to lower the aggregated technical and commercial losses by establishing a smart grid. Several initiatives and joint ventures have also been launched with the purpose of funding and accelerating the SMR deployment. Pilot rollout projects have already been executed.

There is a clear vision for a “Smarter India”, a great determination, and a thorough framework for advanced metering infrastructures (AMI) with high level architectures but also a need for help with finalizing the execution. Therefore, there is a warm welcome to both national and international companies who wants to share their knowledge, help with coordination and experience on how to utilize all resources.  Such companies with experience of large AMI-projects have great potential to act within the role of implementing agencies (so called IA´s) in the proposed framework.

“isMobile, with extensive experience and references from projects in more than ten countries all over the world, can be the partner who provides for expertise and the right tool to make sure the replacement will be performed as planned. These kinds of projects that are complex and involve many players benefit from a tool that keeps it all together, making sure all and every step can be planned for as well as followed up”, says CEO Mikael Bäckman.
