When Hanna Sehlberg and her teammates in IBK Luleå secured the advancement to Allsvenskan, it was the culmination of several years of determined work. For the club, it is about more than a sporting result – it is about creating opportunities for young players in Norrbotten to develop at a high level without having to leave the county.

A team that has built something together

The road back to Allsvenskan has not been straight forward. After the club had previously left the series, the team had to be rebuilt. Junior players took on bigger roles, new players came in and the group got to grow together. According to team captain Hanna, it was only during the decisive qualifying series against Umeå Västra that the team seriously began to believe that the dream could become a reality.

At the same time, both Hanna Sehlberg (No. 24) and Johanna Djärf (No. 1) describe how cohesion became a crucial success factor.

– At the end of this season, we became more like a group. I think that meant a lot.

It's a reminder of something that applies far beyond the sports arena: results are rarely created by individuals alone. They are built by people who share goals, responsibilities and a desire to develop together.

Johanna's journey – from back fracture to the U19 national team

One of the players who has been on the trip is Johanna Djärf who plays for the U19 national team.

At the beginning of the season, she suffered a back fracture after a riding accident. For several months, floorball was put on hold, while there was great uncertainty about her rehabilitation.

But instead of giving up, she chose to focus on the way back.

Shortly afterwards, she was again selected for the U19 national team.

– I was shocked. They called and told me that they were going to take me out. It was nervous and great fun. To be able to represent Sweden felt very big.

Her story shows that development is rarely a straight line. Setbacks and successes often go hand in hand.

It is possible to reach far from Norrbotten

A recurring question for young athletes in northern Sweden is whether you have to move south to succeed.

The answer from Johanna Djärf is clear:

– You don't have to move to get far.

Both she and Hanna highlight the importance of committed coaches, supportive families, teammates and an association that creates opportunities to develop.

One person that Johanna particularly highlights when she talks about her development is NIU coach Joel Abrahamsson. He has been an important support in her journey and helped her develop both her game and her self-confidence.

“I’ve had a lot of important people around me, but Joel at NIU has been a big part of my development. He’s taught me to see the details of my game and to always try to get a little better after every practice and game”

The fact that IBK Luleå now plays in Allsvenskan also means that more young players in the region can see that there is a way forward at home. Just as Hanna puts it:

– Now Allsvenskan is at home. You can play in Norrbotten and still play Allsvenskan floorball.
